This is the second year we have gone to the Amish Auction held just north of Pawnee City.  The whole community gets together and makes food, craft items and furniture, they pots flowers and take consignments to raise money for their school.  The serve burgers, but their dinner this year was a chicken leg and thigh, baked beans and potato salad.. . . very good.  They also sell homemade ice cream. The people are friendly and very genuine.<\/p>\n

We bought a nice horse blanket, some iron rings from old wooden wagon wheels and a canoe wall shelf made by a boy age 15.  All items donated by the Amish have the name and age of the person who made the item.  As a part of the consignment there were 4 of these kinds of horses from old playgrounds.  I bid on them hoping to put them up out at the house.  I thought the younger kids like Lucas and Libby would really enjoy them and I knew Chris would help me paint each one with a different color and design.  But there was a lady there who went much higher than I wanted to go.  Unfortunately for me, she must have known how much they are worth because I checked on the internet later and found that some go for $350 a piece.  She got all 4 for $120 – what a deal!  If there is a next time, I will know better.  And if you see any old playground equipment for sale, like a merry-go-round, these kind of horses or a barrel like the one that use to be in the Fairbury park, please let me know.<\/div>\n

 All of the men and boys wear hats.  We thought you could tell which men were married because they wore beards.  We were wondering how you tell if a woman is married?!:)<\/p>\n

The Amish are known for raising and training good horses.  Most of the are harness horses that are use to the traffic out on the highway.<\/p>\n
