We were so excited to be able to have the quail hunt this year. Ken sent out invitation emails to the hunters telling them the details and letting them know that if they wanted to hunt they would need to be vaccinated. That meant a few of them wouldn’t be coming. Ken also called Uncle Mike and invited him. Ken told him that we had the mule so he wouldn’t have to walk if he didn’t want to. After they hung up, it sounded like he probably wouldn’t be here.  Then through word of mouth we heard that he changed his mind and decided to come. Ken thought the Mule was a good selling point!

Since Uncle Mike was coming, Nancy and Diane came too to visit.

The Crew

The mule was a hit with both Uncle Mike and Uncle Dick and a few other of us that just wanted to go along to watch the fun.

The Hunts:

One of the hunt’s took us down the driveway because a few quail from one of the other hunts flew that way.

Peaches, Jim’s new pup, stuck her nose in the bee hive. They didn’t appreciate the  intrusion.

Lunch:

Everyone brought something so there was lots of good food to eat. After lunch was a good time to sit and visit.

Cleaning the birds:

A lot of hunting comments and jabs go on while everyone is cleaning birds. Well, almost everyone. A few find other things to do 🙂

I enjoy hearing Uncle Mike’s laugh. Good humor over the trash cans.

We hope everyone had a good time. The hunts are good practice for the dogs and it is also about getting family and friends together, reminiscing, having some laughs and creating new memories. Uncle Mike was so appreciative of us having the quail hunt again this year. He talked about how travel is hard for him so we’re not sure how many more times he will make the trip. Sounds like they kept him busy in Fairbury as well with deer camp get-togethers and coyote hunts. He was wishing he could still do a coon hunt but he wouldn’t be able to walk far. Haven’t heard if that was possible for him or not.
