One of the magazine/newspaper subscriptions we enjoy is called the Fence Post and one of the columns is written by Milo Yield. He’s an older guy that lives in the Flint Hills in Kansas and he and his wife do little trips just like Ken and I. One of their trips took them to the Pillsbury Crossing near Manhattan, KS. After reading about their trip I suggested that we make that drive.
We made the trip on Wednesday, Nov. 18th. The weather was nice so the drive was very enjoyable even though all the tree had already lost their leaves. We picked up lunch at Freddies in Manhattan and head out to the crossing. It was a really nice spot where a creek ran across the road. The creek bed was solid rock and there was a small water fall. Sounds like its a favorite summer hang-out with the kids and we ‘old folks’ enjoyed it as well.
You could drive across the stream on the rock to the other side.
We had our lunch and took the trail by the parking lot. Then we crossed the stream and walked along the water’s edge till we ran out obvious path. It was a very nice day trip.
