Well, for us the 2017 hay is officially done! A huge thanks to Aaron who came down to help us out with the hay on the June 25th.We couldn’t have done it without him (and he doesn’t even ride)!! I had started out doing the baling and we had one load on the trailer by the time Aaron got there.
After that was unloaded, Ken did the bailing and let Aaron do the stacking on the trailer. All I did was make sure the bales were at the edge of the trailing when they were unloading, saving them a few steps.
Unfortunately, when we were done Ken figured out that we were short about 50 bales. With a chance of rain in the forecast for the next few days, Ken decided to wait awhile before cutting any more hay. This year the weather was cooler than in the past when the temps are usually in the upper 90’s, high humidity and very little breeze. We usually have sweat running down into our eyes and we drink so much water from the hydrant we start to feel waterlogged. Or Ken will gulp down a Gatorade.
Ken’s was watching the weather since then and he was able to cut the extra hay we needed just this last week. He raked it on Sunday the 9th and declared it ready to be baled. So, after he put more gas in the tractor he went down and baled up the spots he had cut.
Then he came up to the house got the flatbed trailer and me. I drove the tractor while he loaded the bales.
He thought he would wait and see how is knees felt before deciding to unload, but he was doing pretty good so we finished the job and all the hay is now in the barn. Yee Haw!!
