Burwell Rodeo

Well, we made it out to Burwell for the Big Rodeo and the Garfield County Fair again this year.. Both were great as always. We camped out at Calamus Lake and did a little fishing with Jill and her friend Ben from San Diego. Ben had pretty good luck fishing. When he hooked a fish he said it was a shark, as he was reeling it in he wanted to know if it was a catfish and when he landed the fish Ken identified it as a carp.

Saturday morning is the parade in Burwell. A lot of horses and local business are a part of the parade and they all throw pounds of candy for the kids.

These guys are the wild horses riders.
One of the special things they do during the rodeo is the dinner bell derby. They take the mares and foals to one end of the track and then someone holds the foals while the mares to to the other end of the track. Some of the foals get pretty excited about not begin with mom and they’ve been known to knock some of the holders down.

This is always the best part of the rodeo – the wild horse race. It’s the best!!!
