A Week of Travel and Good Times

On the road again . . . We drove out to Aurora on the 16th to help Jillian and Ben move from their rental house to an apartment. Since we both had to work on the 16th, we didn’t leave home until about 7:00 p.m.  We made it as far as Ogallala and spent the night there.  In the morning Ken said he was hoping we could find a bakery to get some fresh rolls. The continental breakfast at the Super 8 didn’t look all that appealing.  Anyway, we searched the phone book and found the Bittersweet Bakery not too far from Front Street.  We were excited when we pulled up to a small building in a neighborhood, but when we headed up the sidewalk we saw the “closed” sign.  Darn.  We ended up at the Safeway store to get rolls, a bagel and flavored milk. Oh well, it was better than dry cereal.
The move was a tight squeeze. Moving from a three bedroom house with a two-stall garage to a two bedroom apartment made it necessary to put some things in storage.  Thursday evening when we were packing up the moving truck, a goat walked by their house.  Yup, a goat!  We tried to herd it into their garage, but she slipped by.  Ken and I spent some time watching the goat and of course, it was a big attraction for the neighbors.  One guy called 911 (since animal control is only open 8 to 5).  We ended up herding the goat again, with the help of the neighbors, into Jill and Ben’s garage and we shut the door.  Ken took a strap and put the goat on a homemade leash.  It wasn’t long until an Aurora city policeman came by and we loaded the goat into the backseat of his cruiser.
Something always comes up to make our trips memorableJ
We had a great drive home on the 19th. We stopped in Arapahoe for Subway sandwich and went down to the park to eat.  When we got there, we saw all the kids and their parents lined for an Easter Egg hunt.  We really enjoyed eating our sandwiches and watching the kids gather up eggs.
Wednesday the 23rd was my Mom’s birthday.  We took Mom to Panera Bread (her choice) for supper. I had made a chocolate cake with coconut frosting so we had that for dessert when we got back to her place.
Thursday the 24th, Ken drove to Omaha to pick Aaron up from the airport. As soon as they got home, they headed over to the lake to fish.
Friday the 25th was the wedding rehearsal and prenuptial dinner for Steve and Megan.  The dinner was a the Green Gateau downtown.  The food was very good.  We got to sit with Steve’s grandparents and one of his groomsman, Kreyton and his wife Brandy.  They are from Idaho Springs, Idaho so it was interesting to chat with them.  Steve’s grandparents were also interesting to talk to.  They were from McCook, NE. Jillian drove in from Denver with the “girls”.  I don’t know how she does it, working a full 12 hour shift at night and then drive most of the day.
Saturday the 26th.  The big day for Megan and Steve.  The weather was a little windy but it was much better than snow or pouring rain.  Megan was a beautiful bride and everything went along without a hitch.  We were so honored to be one of the host couples.  And even though Aaron was a little nervous, he did a good job serving as the acolyte. Here are some pictures I took before the wedding.

Chad, Ken and Steve’s Dad Phil just waiting to be called for pictures.

Lucas playing on an iPad
Mason, Aaron and Nate talking . . . probably about fishing!

It was nice to have a chance to visit with some of the Fairbury family and friends at the reception.  The food was great, Dennis did a good job with his speech and there was a lot of picture taking of the Groom’s cake.

The brides cake was very pretty.  Megan and Carol made a whole bunch of mints.  There was a sweet and salty bar where you could get M&M, animal crackers, potatoes chips and the like.  Another table that had chips and dip.
Sunday the 27th was a day of rest . . . until we drove Aaron to Omaha to catch his flight back to Chicago.  The weather didn’t cooperate for him.  His flight was originally scheduled to leave at 7:40 p.m.  Just before we were ready to leave he got notice that it had been moved back to 8:15, but we headed out about 5:30.  Then on the way there, he got another notice that it got moved back to 9:25.  We hated dropping him off knowing he was going to have to sit in the airport for a couple of hours.  But it got worse, when we were at Pla Mor he texted that his flight had been moved again to 10:40.  We got a text from him at 2:41 a.m. that he finally made it home.  Monday will be a long day for him.
