New York City

Well, we made the trip to New York City to visit Jill and she gave us a whirl-wind tour in 2 1/2 days. Sunday we went to the Empire State Building at dusk when the lights in the buildings are starting to come on.

Monday we visited Ground Zero and Fire House Ten, the fire station that first responded to 9/11. They have a nice memorial set up just inside the station.

Just across the street from Ground Zero is St. Paul’s Church. This is a very historic church that is surrounded by its cemetery. Some of the headstones are dated in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. During the 9/11 recovery they opened their doors to serve meals and offer a place for firefighters and volunteers to rest.

On Monday we also took a ride on the Staten Island Ferry where we could see the Statue of Liberty and we visited St. Patrick’s Catheral.

Monday afternoon we stood outside the Hello Deli to watch the filming of a segment of the David Letterman’s show. We also went inside the Hello Deli so Ken could buy a t-shirt and have Ruppert autograph it.

And of course, Tuesday was Yankee Day!!! We took a tour of Yankee Stadium and Monument Park. We spent the afternoon at Central Park and then back to Yankee Stadium for the game with the Boston Red Sox. We were busy, but we had a good time.
