Burwell Rodeo Parade 2009

This is our campsite at Calamus Lake. It really started to fill up on Friday afternoon and this is the primative camping area.

THE PARADE!!

This is the Burwell Marching Band (all 15 of them). They played the Star Spangled Banner and everyone sang – it’s pretty cool.

These are the trick riders that performed during the rodeo. This gal tried a new stunt this year, she went from one side of the horse to the other by climbing under the horse’s neck as he’s running full speed down the track. She did fine on Friday, but Saturday she had a little trouble.

The gal in black on the pretty paint was selected as Miss Burwell Rodeo Friday night. On Saturday morning before the parade we always go the the Catholic Church for pancakes and sausage. All of the rodeo queens are there and Miss Burwell sat with us and talked awhile. We told her we would “wave” to her during the parade (you all remember how to do the parade wave, right?) There was a troop of boy scouts there and they were going around getting all of the rodeo queen’s pictures and autographs – it’s a whole different world out West and it’s great.

These riders do authentic re-enactments at Fort Hartsuff. This gal is riding side-saddle – “would you marry a girl who didn’t?” Hey Carie trivia time – what show is that from?

Every parade should have a monster truck!!

These are the “red hat” ladies from the Burwell area – everyone gets into the act. They even have a float with the king and queen from the nursing home.

Aaron – we found a boat that was for sale for you:) Might be a little out of your budget.

This little gal was probably the youngest rider we saw in the parade.

This wagon is promoting the Oregan Trail Days rodeo in Hasting over the Labor Day weekend.

This is an outfit from around David City – they have a lot of different horse drawn equipment and they rent out for things like weddings and anniversaries.

We didn’t take pictures at the rodeo this year. The best part is the wild horse race and you miss out on so much of it if you’re trying to take pictures. You’ll just have to go and experience it for yourselves!
